OK, so I'm still kicking myself in the butt for putting this off for so long, but I finally read Wild Seed and had just gotten myself ready to read Mind of my Mind, when a copy of Kindred fell into my hands. So of course I have been reading it.

EdTAdd: Did I mention there would be spoilers? If you haven't read all three volumes of Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials and think you might like to, then shade your eyes and hit the back button at once.

In other reading news, I reread His Dark Materials, and I'm actually pretty happy with the way Lyra and Will have to part, because it BUILDS so well on the theme of consensual and nonconsensual separation from daemons that Pullman had already set up, but the second reading made more evident to me that I was not satisfied by the end of Marisa and Asriel; neither on the first nor on the second reading. Metatron and the senile Authority just aren't satisfying villains. I expect they are to somebody, but when I read those parts I get the feeling that Pullman is seriously and earnestly addressing a reader who isn't me. I may well have liked those parts better when I was 13 years old, but when I was 13 years old, they hadn't been published yet. I would never hesitate to recommend these books to a 12-year-old who enjoyed reading fiction for pleasure, though.

Oh, I also finished reading The Speed of Dark and I'm still digesting it. It does make me want to find out more about fencing clubs in Oakland (where I live) though.
